Elvin Davis, legendary Tidewater League slugger from Marshallberg (Down East Carteret County) who played for my Dad in the late 40’s and early 50’s, once clouted one so far in a game at Beaufort field that his teammate said, “Son, he hit ‘er slam to Otway”. (Otway is a community on the other side of the North River bridge between Beaufort and Marshallberg.)
